My pastor likes to say that Jesus came to build relationships. Jesus offered things that the religious leaders of his time did not – things like friendship, empathy and understanding, and could not – like grace. My pastor is also fond of saying “The people in the Bible are a lot like us, and we are a lot like the people in the Bible.” So if the people in the Bible needed those things I do too.
One of the many wonderful things that I have seen in the brief time we have all been gathering together is the building of relationships. We need the support of a strong circle of Christian believers. I need the support of friends of faith. Years ago when I was a young believer at Coral Shores, I participated in a daily prayer circle in front of the school. In the morning students from various walks of faith and churches would gather and pray for each other, our fellow students, and our community. What an impact this had on my life. Knowing that I didn’t stand alone gave me the strength to continue in my walk. I look back very fondly on those days and the relationships that were built – many of which I continue today.
Our UKCP reminds me of that prayer circle – and I know that one day I will look back on the relationships that were built and smile, thanking God for each of you. Thank you for being in my circle.
