“We are all innkeepers, each of us deciding whether or not there is room for Jesus in our hearts.”
I saw this at a fall festival this past weekend and it got me thinking about the roles in the Nativity story. Have you ever put yourself in their places? Think about how you would have reacted had you have been Mary, Joseph, a shepherd, the Magi? I admit I never think about the innkeeper much – until I saw that sign.
If this had happened in today’s world, Joseph would have gone online to Kayak or Orbitz and made a reservation or punched up an app on his smart phone, using his Bank of Nazareth debit card. But in Jesus’s time, I expect it was first come, first serve. And with the census, I am sure that Mary and Joseph were not the only people stuck in a place better served for animals- or worse. The innkeeper did find room – just not the best of accommodations. Maybe it would be easier to say he “fit” them in.
So the question is – are you like the innkeeper in the story, just “fitting” Jesus in your heart? Or does He have all the room He needs?
The King of Kings is coming – do you have room?
